Distributed Application Monitoring for Clustered SMP Architectures
نویسندگان
چکیده
Performance analysis for terascale computing requires a combination of new concepts including distribution, on-line processing and automation. As a foundation for tools realizing these concepts, we present a distributed monitoring approach for clustered SMP architectures that tries to minimize the perturbation of the target application while retaining flexibility with respect to filtering and processing of performance data. We achieve this goal by dividing the monitor in a passive monitoring library linked to the application and an active component called runtime information producer (RIP) that provides performance data (metricand event based) for individual nodes. Instead of adding an additional layer in the monitoring system that integrates performance data form the individual RIPs we include a directory service as a third component in our approach. Querying this directory service, tools discover which RIPs provide the data they need.

Task-to-processor allocation for distributed heterogeneous applications on SMP clusters
Today, distributed architectures are based on multi core SMP nodes. Several middleware, like the FlowVR framework, exist to design interactive and heterogeneous distributed applications for these architectures. FlowVR defines an application as a set of codes mapped on cluster nodes and linked by a communication and synchronization network. But if we control the way modules are synchronized and ...
متن کاملLoad Balanced Parallel Simulated Annealing on a Cluster of SMP Nodes
The paper focuses on a parallel implementation of a simulated annealing algorithm. In order to take advantage of the properties of modern clustered SMP architectures a hybrid method using a combination of OpenMP nested in MPI is advocated. The development of the reference implementation is proposed. Furthermore, a few load balancing strategies are introduced: time scheduling at the annealing pr...
متن کاملUsing Hybrid Parallel Programming Techniques for the Computation, Assembly and Solution Stages in Finite Element Codes
The so called “hybrid parallelism paradigm”, that combines programming techniques for architectures with distributed and shared memories using MPI (Message Passing Interface) and OpenMP (Open Multi-Processing) standards, is currently adopted to exploit the growing use of multi-core computers, thus improving the efficiency of codes in such architectures (several multi-core nodes or clustered sym...
متن کاملClustered Storage
The paper introduces the reader to a new paradigm shift that is currently taking place in the data storage industry: the movement toward Clustered Storage architectures. Clustered Storage architectures are changing the rules of how data is stored and accessed. This paper discusses the trends that clearly define clustered storage architectures as the future of data storage, detail the requiremen...
متن کاملarallel Performance Study of Monte Carlo Photon Transport Code on Shared-, Distributed-, and Distributed-Shared-Memory Architectures
We have parallelized a Monte Carlo photon transport algorithm. Three different parallel versions of the algorithm were developed. The first version is for the Tera Multi-Threaded Architecture (MTA) and uses Tera specific directives. The second version, which uses MPI library calls, has been implemented on both the CRAY T3E and the 8-way SMP IBM SP with Power3 processors. The third version is a ...
